Transcript: Hi, Steve Kirsh and Yogi here. Welcome to our online brochure. There is some information below about our practice. If you are receiving this brochure via an email we sent to you, and you would like to pursue things further with us please follow the steps in that email. I’d also, in addition to introducing Yogi, I want to tell you that we have some great staff members, most of which are two-legged, in our office. Some of whom who have been with us for as long as 20 years. If you come to meet us you will find that Yogi, and his sister Hanna, who is under the desk right now, are regular fixtures in the office. We are here to help you.I know that there is a lot of questions. It is a scary process, its daunting, but we have been doing this for a very long time and we are happy to help. Thank you

Dealing With Expectations and Disappointment in the Adoption Process

Sometimes, adoption doesn’t work out as you planned. Families can go through the entire process only to have to start all over again. While the legal steps are often clear, adoption itself is a murky area. There are no guarantees. We don’t know how many hills you will have to climb or what will happen when you finally turn that last corner. What we do know is that, if you work with us, we will be by your side every step of the way, helping you meet any challenges that come along.

At Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C., our Indiana adoption lawyers have more than 32 years of legal experience — that’s 32 years focused solely on adoption law. We have seen it all and know the challenges. If you are considering adoption, turn to advocates with experience, confidence, and — most importantly — hope. Contact Kirsh & Kirsh online or by calling 317-575-5555 today.

When Adoption Takes Longer Than First Expected

Whether you knew from the start that you would not be able to have a child, spent years trying to give birth, or simply prefer adoption, we understand that you are eager to bring your child home. Most of our adoptions take between 18 to 24 months. Some adoptions, such as stepparent adoption, Department of Child Services DCS adoptions and grandparent adoptions can take less time.

However, some adoptions take longer — some can even take multiple years. There are many factors at play in determining how long your adoption will take. For example, it may take awhile to find a good fit for you, there may be legal obstacles, or the birth mother may decide to keep her child.

Common Adoption Obstacles

Since we have practiced adoption law for more than 32 years, we have experience with many obstacles to adoption, including:

  • A birth mother’s decision to keep her baby or otherwise withdraw her consent (the birth mother can change her mind at any time before she signs a consent to adoption)
  • A biological father’s decision to exercise his claim to the child
  • Financial barriers
  • Delays in court proceedings
  • Difficulties with government agencies
  • Problems with the home study, criminal background check or medical examination
  • A miscarriage or other medical issues
  • A limited number of newborns available for adoption

Working with an Indiana adoption agency can also be a significant barrier, adding a level of bureaucracy that can delay your adoption. At Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C., a private adoption law firm, you will not face this barrier — you will always work directly with the person helping you make your decisions. Our Indiana adoption lawyers will help you work through any challenges you encounter and strive to make this an efficient, positive process for you.
