You Have Choices as a Birth Mother

Choosing the Right Family for Your Baby

Kirsh & Kirsh — Indiana Adoption Attorneys

One in six couples in America cannot have a child of their own. By making an adoption plan for your child, you are giving life's most incredible gift to people who can't have a child another way. You want your baby to have a loving home and a life full of happiness.

For more than 30 years, the Indiana adoption lawyers at Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C., have helped birth mothers learn about the adoptive parents waiting for their child and make the heroic choice. Contact our law office today to learn more about how we can help you and your baby.

Your Choices

As a birth mother, you can choose who you want to adopt your child. Many adoptive parents are opposite-sex couples who are adopting their first child. However, these are not the only people hoping to adopt a child. Prospective adoptive parents may also be:

  • Gay and lesbian couples/same-sex couples: Same-sex couples cannot have children of their own. Adoption is one of the only ways that they can experience the joy of raising children.
  • Single parents: Many single parents have everything they need to take good care of an adopted child, including a strong income and an even stronger ability to love and care for a child.
  • Families with other children: Prospective adoptive parents may have other children, adopted or biological. These parents are looking to add to their families, giving an adopted child siblings who will watch over him or her.

No family is perfect, but we strive to find the right family for your child. We go through an extensive screening process before we accept a prospective adoptive parent as a client, including health history checks, finance checks, home studies, criminal history checks, adoption counseling and more. We will not work with clients who we believe would not be a good parent to our sons — that is, and always has been, our standard.

Making Your Choice

Now is the time for you to consider your options — a same-sex couple or single parent may be able to provide the right environment for your child to thrive or you may wish your child to be brought up by an opposite-sex couple with children. This is your choice and we are confident you will make the right decision. To learn more about the families waiting to adopt, view our online profiles.

You are not committed to the adoption until you sign a consent to adoption, which you cannot sign until after the baby is born. Kirsh & Kirsh, P.C., will not ask you to commit to the adoption until you are ready to commit to it. An adoption agency may ask you to sign a promissory note or may follow laws from another state — these are red flags. We will never pressure you into an adoption. This is your choice, not ours.
