Dear Birth Mother,
Hello! Our names are Mark and Pia, and we live in Massachusetts. First we can only imagine what a difficult decision this must be for you. Our hearts and thoughts go out to you as you go through this difficult process. We applaud your courage. We have been happily married for 6 years and have known each for over 10 years. After years of trying and experiencing the challenges of infertility, we are excited to begin our family through adoption. We hope that this letter tells you about us and our sincere wish to welcome a child into our lives.
About Us
We met overseas in Stockholm, Sweden, and had an instant connection. Mark was on a European work assignment, and Pia was living in her hometown of Stockholm. It all started innocently by Mark offering Pia his seat in a restaurant (he is always quite the gentleman!) and striking up a conversation. The conversation never ended! We were immediately drawn to each other. We discovered similar interests including a fondness for traveling and experiencing different things and cultures. We have so much fun when we are together, whether we’re taking a day trip or just hanging around the house doing chores. We enjoy taking long walks, going to the beach and having friends and family over for dinner or just to hang out.
We treasure each day that we have together as husband and wife. We have been blessed in many ways; however, we both know there is more to life than just us. It was never a question for us that we would one day have a family. We are both constantly surrounded by children and are excited to have a child to call our own!
We can’t wait to become parents. While we look forward to the important events in your child’s life, like birthdays and first days of school, we look more forward to the day to day events of just being parents. As strange as it may sound to you, we even look forward to dirty diapers and middle of the night feedings. We hope and pray that day will come soon. We promise we will always protect, love and nurture your child through good times and bad. We will be there to cheer their successes and ease their disappointments. Your child will be the center of our universe.
Our home is located in a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, on a beautiful square with fountains and cobblestones. In our neighborhood, there are many couples with children and plenty of playgrounds and parks all within walking distance. The nursery is all set up and ready to welcome a little one! The ocean and beach are a short, fifteen minute drive. We like to visit our friends and their families at their weekend places by the ocean in the summer and the mountains in the winter. We have so much fun playing in the sun or the snow with our friends and their children and cannot wait to share this with our child.
Not only do we have an abundance of love to give your child, but we have the resources to enable them to develop their interests, skills, and talents and pursue their hopes and dreams. Mark graduated from Harvard and can’t wait to help with homework. Pia is very creative, playful and loves animals. Our refrigerator has plenty of room for our child’s works of art. We can provide your child with the best education available and will help them get through college and beyond, if that is their desire. We look forward to sharing our favorite spots from all over the world and, most importantly, our love and respect for family.
Mark ~ Early on in my life, I suffered the loss of my mother. My father raised my sister and me. We missed mom and thought of her often, but dad was great. We also spent a lot of time with our godparents, who owned a farm with all kinds of animals. My sister and I spent a lot of our summers there just enjoying simple pleasures surrounded by nature and the land. I also enjoy playing and going to sports events – football, golf, soccer, baseball, and sailing – just to name a few. Both Pia and I are into health and physical fitness. We go to the gym together, hike together and play golf together as often as we can. Two of my closest friends from childhood are adopted. They have been so helpful and supportive to me and Pia during these times. I look forward to being able to share my interests with your child and give them the opportunity to find and pursue their own interests and passions.
Pia ~ I grew up in a loving close knit family with 2 brothers. I was fortunate to know both my grandparents. My mom stayed at home, and my dad was an engineer. He came home at 5PM everyday, and we ate dinner as a family every evening. I was involved at school and in all kinds of sports. I rode horseback, sprinted, skated, skied, played the guitar and loved soccer. I still love to do all these things! My summers were spent at the beach, and in the winter, we went skiing. My mother was a great cook, designer and friend. I am lucky that I inherited all of these great qualities from her. I cannot wait to share all my interests with our child and have them experience the wonderful opportunities Mark and I can provide. Grandma is already planning all the things she can knit for her new grandchild and the different ways to spoil him or her!
Mark ~ Pia loves to focus her time around the home, going to the gym, enjoying the arts/museums and our friends. Pia is involved in many activities with her friends and is a member of various book, cooking and garden clubs. She is also a volunteer worker with the elderly. She has the keenest eye
for design and decorating. She is also a tremendous natural cook – she can put together a gourmet meal in the blink of an eye without any recipes! Eating together is an important part of our daily routine. Children are drawn to Pia – maybe it’s because of that playful side of her? She is extremely creative and, in no time, has a group of children engaged in some type of activity. Before you can turn around, she is devising a new game with them, reading a book or telling them silly stories about the squirrel family that has decided to move in with us. She is a great listener and is extremely patient. She just loves life! Pia plans to be at home full time with our child. Her patience, devotion, and fun-loving nature will make her a wonderful Mom.
Pia ~ Mark has a wide variety of interests and can always be counted on to help out at the last minute. Mark likes spending time with our families and friends. He enjoys being in the outdoors, whether it be sailing, hiking, golfing or simply going for long walks. He enjoys music, sports, reading and keeping up with the latest trends and issues all over the world. He has an outgoing personality and feels at ease with just about anyone. He has a great sense of humor. Mark is a Vice President at a software company and sometimes travels as part of his work. He is always bringing home something interesting from the places he visits. He is upbeat and is able to juggle many things at the same time. He is naturally curious about the world around him. Our friends, children, nieces and nephews enjoy spending time with him and listening to his stories. Mark shares equal responsibility in the house and shares all chores whether it be laundry, cooking or cleaning. Mark is always there for me, our family and friends. There is nothing that he won’t do to help. Mark will be a very active and involved father.
Our families are so excited to have a new little one to love! We have a very close knit group of friends all within a short distance of us who we consider our family. Although our immediate families are further away, we see them on a regular basis, and they are a very essential part of our lives. Our friends come from large families which usually translate into at least 15 kids for the typical summer barbecue or birthday party!
Traditions are very important to us, and we can't wait to begin new traditions with your child. We are fortunate to be able to celebrate and enjoy traditions from both our Swedish and American backgrounds. We usually take a summer and winter trip to Sweden. In the summer, we spend time with our in-laws and enjoy the Swedish midnight sun – it never really gets dark in the summertime! We usually spend time at our country house. We always like to try something new and different so we try to pick a new place to vacation in the summer and winter. We like to spend a lot of time outdoors, and we hope our child will appreciate everything that nature has to offer. A very important aspect for us is to sit down and eat dinner as a family. This is the time when we can block the rest of the world out and focus attention on ourselves.
We've been waiting to hear little footsteps running through the house. We would be honored to be chosen as the parents for your child. We promise to love your child unconditionally, and to let him or her know of your profound love of them and concern for their future.. We greatly admire your courage and strength in exploring adoption. We hope that you have some insight into who we are and the kind of parents we will be. Likewise, we would be happy to send you letters and photographs letting your know how your child is getting along, if you wish.
If you would like to know more about us, talk with us by telephone, or meet us in person, please let our attorneys, Steve and Joel Kirsh, know. You can reach them anytime at 800-333-5736.
We wish you well and hope to hear from you.
